If you missed out on getting an iPhone X on Friday, you're not completely out of luck. While you could pre-order from Apple and wait three to four weeks for delivery, you can also roll the dice with Apple’s in-store pickup.
Apple is now offering in-store pickup as an iPhone X purchasing option through its online store. This essentially allows you to check if your desired iPhone X configuration is in stock in the 10 closest stores to your postcode. If the iPhone X is available at any store near you, you can complete the checkout process and reserve the device for same day in-store pickup.
Availability does seem to come down to luck: when we checked yesterday, the Sydney George Street store had the 64GB iPhone X in space grey. This morning, the Broadway store had the 256GB iPhone X in silver. Both were gone after a couple of minutes. Essentially, if you want to skip the pre-order queue, you might have to compromise on colour and storage space - and be quick on the trigger.
Apple typically updates availability around 6am local time, but you may have some luck refreshing throughout the day. At time of writing, Sydney stores appear to be out of stock.
