Apple users will soon need to step their social media game, thanks to a new iOS feature designed to make content creation easy, enjoyable, and totally free.
Clips is an all-new app for iPhone and iPad that promises to take your Insta stories, Snapchat video and Facebook posts to the next level. The easy-to-use app allows users to create unique, super-sharable content by combining video, photos, and music, without the need for tricky editing tools.
Easy editing, simple sharing
Open up the Clips app, and you can shoot live video and photos with the touch of a button, then easily edit and combine what you’ve recorded – including adding older media from your device's library. You’ll be able to trim and rework your video, then add effects including filters, speech bubbles and emoji, background music, and full-screen animated posters and text.
In addition, the Live Titles feature lets users add their own animated captions, subtitles, and on-screen commentary, without the need to manually type text. Use Live Titles to automatically generate captions in 36 languages using just your voice; subtitles will independently adjust to be in-sync with the speaker's voice, and you can easily edit text, and even add emoji, with a tap of the screen.
Once you’ve added the finishing touches, it’s easy to share your Clips-created content with friends, family and followers via social media and video sites. You can upload your videos directly to Facebook, YouTube, Vimeo, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat and more, or send straight to loved ones through Apple’s Messages app.
When can I get it?
Clips isn’t totally innovative – quick, direct video sharing is a standard feature for Snapchat and Instagram users – but if it’s as easy to use as Apple claims, it’s a great tool for anyone looking to make fun, high-quality media with just a few minutes of effort. While the comic-book style filters Apple has previewed are kind of goofy, we do love the simplicity of Live Titles (assuming the talk-to-text feature is as accurate as Apple promises).
If Clips sounds like your kind of app, you’ll be able to download it free from the App Store from April onwards. Clips is compatible with the iPhone 5s and later (including the new RED iPhone 7), the iPad mini 2 and later, the new 9.7-inch iPad and iPad Pro, and the iPod touch 6th generation, provided your device is running iOS 10.3.
