Telstra MVNOs to gain access to full speed HSPA

Telstra Wholesale will soon lift network restrictions on its products, allowing its telco customers them to offer network speeds up to 42Mbps.

According to ZDNet, the change should take place over the next three months, with Telstra’s 12 current wholesale customers to take advantage of the increase in speed as soon as the change takes effect.

The network coverage will also improve from 98% of the Australian population to 98.5%.

One of Telstra’s key wholesale customers is Medion, owner of Aldi Supermarkets and the Aldi Mobile product. Telstra has reportedly signed on Aldi Mobile for a further three-years of wholesale service. The increase in speed is great news for Aldi customers, despite the data in the current plans being reduced recently to just 1GB per month.

Other Telstra wholesale customers include LycaMobile, CMobile and Boost Mobile.

This shift bridges an important technological gap between MVNOs using Telstra's network, and those on the Optus Network. Optus has been reselling 4G services through MVNO partners for sometime, offering speeds up to a theoretical maximum of 100Mbps.
